The DART AE is a unique flying vehicle, capable of 3D printing and flying at speeds up to Mach 7.

In the field of space exploration, suborbital rockets are emerging, upsetting conventional notions of what is possible in this field.

Rocket Lab (USA), the world's leading company in launching rockets and space systems, has once again launched a new plan, with the ambition to launch into space a vehicle with unprecedented speed.

In early November 2023, Rocket Lab announced a new contract with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) for the HASTE (Hypersonic Accelerator Suborbital Test Electron) mission. The mission will be the first to employ a UAV capable of reaching speeds of up to Mach 7.

Rocket Lab's HASTE mission involves the launch of the enhanced DART AE hypersonic vehicle developed by Australian company Hypersonix.

This advanced vehicle, equipped with a jet engine (Ramjet), is a 3m long, 300kg technological prototype with a range of 1,000km.

What makes the DART AE unique is its 3D printing capabilities and its ability to fly on unique, non-ballistic trajectories at speeds of up to 8,350 km/h. The DART AE uses the world's first fully 3D printed frame made from high-temperature alloys.

Rocket Lab, founded in 2006 and headquartered in California, has become a prominent player in the space industry. The company has developed the small Electron rocket, the Photon satellite platform, and is currently developing the large Neutron rocket.

Electron is the most frequently launched small commercial rocket in the world and its use in the HASTE mission offers new opportunities for commercial testing.

Since its first launch in 2018, Electron rockets have delivered 171 satellites into orbit for government and private organizations in research, communications and defense.

The company's Photon spacecraft platform has been selected by NASA for missions to the Moon and Mars, and will also be used on the first private commercial mission to Venus.
