On June 15, the US military conducted a series of attacks on radar facilities operated by Houthi forces in Yemen.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the US military's attacks destroyed seven radars in Houthi-controlled territory. These radars are the "eyes" that help the Houthis identify targets, attack ships and endanger commercial shipping activities by sea.

In addition, CENTCOM said in another attack, the US destroyed two unmanned boats containing bombs in the Red Sea and one drone launched by the Houthis in this sea.

The agency added that one sailor on the Liberian-flagged, Greek-owned bulk carrier Tutor was still missing after a Houthi drone attack on the ship on June 12.

The crew abandoned the ship and were rescued by the USS Philippine Sea and partner forces. Meanwhile, the UK Maritime Trade Operations Center said on the afternoon of June 15 that the Tutor was still burning and sinking.

The Philippine state news agency (PNA) reported that the head of the Philippine Bureau of Labor Immigration Hans Leo Cacdac confirmed that the missing sailor was a Philippine citizen. Most of the 22 sailors on the Tutor were from the Philippines.

The attacks come as the US Navy attempts to counter a Houthi campaign targeting merchant ships in the Red Sea that the group says are linked to Israel. The Houthis have vowed to continue carrying out more attacks in protest of Israel’s ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip.

According to the US Maritime Administration, the Houthis have carried out more than 50 attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea, killing three sailors, seizing one ship and sinking another since November 2023.

In response, a US-led air campaign against the Houthis since January has killed at least 16 of their fighters.
