According to the indictment, some pharmacies identified high-profit prescriptions and recruited doctors to fill them and direct patients to fill them. The pharmacies tallied up the prescriptions and then paid the doctors profits through marketing and management services companies such as Trinity Champion and Hexamed.
Indictment alleges doctors prescribed drugs with profit sharing
Trinity Champion leader Amir Mortazavi and Hexamed leader Arvin Zeinali along with two companies were prosecuted.
The indictment alleges that the pharmacies kept 45-55% of the profits, while the rest was transferred to intermediary companies to be shared with doctors. If convicted, each defendant faces up to 45 years in prison.
According to FBI Special Agent Chad Yarbrough, healthcare fraud affects every sector of the US economy and costs billions of dollars annually.
