On June 17, PEOPLE reported that actor David Hekili Kenui Bell - who played Big Hawaiian Dude in the live-action Lilo & Stitch (2025) - passed away at the age of 57. The family confirmed the information and announced it on his sister Jalene Kanani Bell's personal Facebook page.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share that my loving, generous, talented, funny, intelligent, and handsome brother David Hekili Kenui Bell has passed away,” Jalene wrote.
The cause of death was not disclosed. In a memorial post, she called David “a living joy, a prince among ordinary people.”
It’s worth noting that David died just weeks after the premiere of Lilo & Stitch . Disney’s new live-action film is still playing in theaters and is doing impressively well. With a production budget of around $100 million, the film has grossed over $858 million as of June 15.
At the movie premiere on May 23, David eagerly prepared first-class tickets for the whole family to watch the first screening at the theater in Kapolei (USA).

Born in Hawaii, David has held various positions at Kona International Airport. In addition to acting, he is passionate about voice acting. One of David’s greatest prides is being able to record his voice for the Kona Airport, where travelers can hear him over the loudspeaker system when checking in to Hawaii.
David has also appeared in memorable supporting roles such as Magnum PI (2018–2019) and Hawaii Five-0 (2014) .
