THE ONLY STUDENT OF GIA LAI WON THE FIRST PRIZE

This is the third consecutive year that Hai has become a national excellent student. Previously, in the two school years 2021-2022, 2022-2023, this male student won second prize in English.

Hai majored in math but was good at all subjects, especially passionate and excelling in English.

Notably, in this exam, Hai was the only student from Gia Lai province to win first prize. Hai shared his feelings: "It was a mixture of surprise and joy. Initially, after finishing the exam, I felt that I did okay. However, when the official results came from the Ministry of Education and Training, I burst into happiness. Regarding becoming the only student from Gia Lai to win first prize, I think it is just adding to the learning tradition of the province and the school."

Hai said he started learning English in grade 2. Thanks to that, his skills in this subject gradually improved over time, contributing to helping Hai receive many admirable achievements in English competitions for excellent students. For example, he won a silver medal in the 30.4 Traditional Olympic competition in 2023, or in grade 8, when he took the first test, he achieved a score of 7.5 IELTS...

Among the subjects, Hai has a lot of affection for English. The Gia Lai male student explained: "Because that subject is like a bridge between me and my hobby of reading stories. Reading stories in English has helped me update faster with many translations. In addition, it also allows me to read many comments from readers around the world . Through that, I get to hear hypotheses, inferences, analysis, debates... Those factors help me improve my English skills, as well as increase my ability to debate."

When asked if learning English is difficult, Hai replied: "To be honest, for me, learning English is not too difficult. And the most important thing in learning this foreign language is to stick with one of your hobbies. For example, I stick with my hobby of reading stories. Then, find a way to apply this language to increase my understanding and passion for that hobby."

Another reason why Hai is passionate about English is that from a young age he realized that this language is very important in both studying and life. "Many psychologists have hypothesized that language affects each person's thoughts and thinking. Therefore, having good foreign language skills has helped me gain new perspectives on many issues," Hai said.

I WANT TO WORK AT THE EMBASSY

As an excellent student for 11 consecutive years, having represented Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted in the Road to Olympia 2023 competition (first prize of the week with a score of 310, including a perfect score of 160 in the acceleration test, then won second prize of the month - PV ), Hai is often mistaken for a "bookworm".

Hai once participated in the Road to Olympia contest and won first prize in the week, then won second prize in the monthly contest.

However, according to this male student: "I still think I read too little so I can't be a "bookworm". Not to mention that I still spend time playing every day to relieve stress after school hours".

Hai said that his personal hobbies are reading stories, listening to J-Pop music (from Japan) and playing games. "But I play games in moderation just for entertainment, not because I'm too addicted. I still spend a reasonable amount of time studying," Hai said with a laugh.

This male student also added that the reason he has achieved some of his current academic achievements is because he always follows his older sister's example. "My older sister is the person I idolize in life. Because she is a good student, a brave and upright person, always clear-headed and never lets difficulties overcome her," Hai said, adding that his older sister is a third-year student at the National Economics University (Hanoi).

According to Hai, in the near future he will take the international relations exam, because he wants to pursue his dream of working in an embassy or becoming a resident reporter for a Vietnamese news agency abroad.

Mr. Mai Ngoc Linh, homeroom teacher of class 12C3A, commented: "Hai is a diligent student, very good at self-study. Hai is among the best students in the class. Although he specializes in math, Hai has a special passion for English and is good at all subjects. For example, in the physics subject that I teach, Hai's overall score is 9.9".

Teacher Linh added that in the past 20 years, it was not until the 2023-2024 school year that Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted had a student win first prize in English in the national excellent student selection exam.
