Russia says West 'ignoring' peace proposals in Ukraine, reveals one condition for conflict to 'come to an end'

On July 12, in an interview with Kompas (Indonesia), Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented that the West is "ignoring" the initiatives of developing countries to help "untie the knot" in Ukraine.

“There are signs that the West is ignoring initiatives from developing countries, including proposals from Indonesian President Joko Widodo,” Lavrov said.

In June 2022, Mr. Widodo visited Moscow and discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin issues related to resolving the conflict, expressing his readiness to "establish contact" between the leaders of Russia and Ukraine.

According to Russia's top diplomat, to counter the peace initiatives of developing countries, the West intends to implement the " peace formula" of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

Minister Lavrov said that Mr. Zelensky's proposal was a set of "ultimatums" to Russia, allowing Kiev to demand compensation, as well as holding a "prejudiced" trial against the Moscow government.

Previously, last May, the Office of the President of Ukraine announced that Kiev wanted to hold a "Global Peace Summit" in Ukraine.

Recently, Mr. Zelensky also confirmed that he is working on organizing the above conference to discuss his proposed peace plan. The conference's agenda is expected to include a discussion on measures to resolve the issues under each topic in the "peace formula".

Also in an interview with the Indonesian newspaper, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry predicted that the conflict in Ukraine will last a long time, unless the West abandons its plan to defeat Moscow.

According to Foreign Minister Lavrov, the goal of the West - under the leadership of the United States - is to consolidate its position as "global hegemon".

Explaining why the confrontation in Ukraine cannot end, the official said: “The conflict will continue until the West abandons its plan to maintain dominance and overcomes its desire to strategically defeat Russia.”

He also affirmed that, for now, the parties still "show no signs of changing their stance."
