On August 15, the Russian Federal Space Agency Roscosmos announced that the country had successfully launched the Progres MS-28 cargo spacecraft into orbit using a Soyuz-2.1a rocket.
The launch took place at 6:20 a.m. on August 15, Moscow time (10:20 a.m. on the same day, Vietnam time) from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. Progress MS-28 is expected to dock with the International Space Station (ISS) at 8:56 a.m. on August 17, Moscow time (12:56 p.m. on the same day, Vietnam time). The spacecraft will dock with the ISS's Zvezda service module, transferring a total of 2,621 kg of cargo.
On its resupply mission to the ISS, Progress MS-28 carries 950 kg of fuel supplies, 420 liters of drinking water and 50 kg of compressed nitrogen. The spacecraft also carries food, clothing and tools for scientific experiments. Notably, Progress MS-28 also carries the SPIN-X1-MVN X-ray spectrometer, which will be installed outside the Zvezda module when the astronauts have their upcoming spacewalk. This device will allow scientists to periodically survey almost the entire sky in the X-ray spectrum.
In addition, the cargo the cargo ship carries also includes other equipment that allows astronauts to conduct new scientific experiments.
