Research on imported sand sources to ensure the construction needs of traffic projects, especially expressway projects in the Mekong Delta region, is being continued to be considered and evaluated by relevant agencies.

Reporting to the National Assembly on the research on solutions to diversify material sources for transport projects, especially in the Mekong Delta region, the Ministry of Transport said that according to a report by the Ho Chi Minh City Real Estate Association, Cambodia has goodwill to export sand to Vietnam with a reserve of about 100 million m3, with an exploitation period of one year.

The Association also proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee act as the focal point to work with the other side to carry out the procedures, and at the same time assign a military business unit in the South to act as the focal point to sign the contract for distribution.

"Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has presided over and coordinated with relevant ministries, branches and agencies to organize a working delegation to Cambodia and report to the Prime Minister.

Accordingly, Cambodia's sand reserves for filling and construction are abundant, providing enough for the immediate and long-term needs of the southern provinces. Sand supply activities have no problems with the policies of the two governments . This is a large source of supply for projects," the Ministry of Transport informed.

Previously, reporting to the Ministry of Transport on the mobilization of materials for the construction of the North-South Expressway project, the Can Tho - Ca Mau section, a representative of the My Thuan Project Management Board said that in order to meet the schedule of completing the loading and treatment of weak soil in 2024 so that the project can ensure completion in 2025, in addition to the source of river and sea sand brought to the construction site, the purchase of sand from Cambodia is also being studied and evaluated by the investor, consulting unit, and contractor.
