Egyptian Foreign Minister Warns of Humanitarian Disaster in Gaza Strip

On November 2, in separate phone calls with foreign ministers and officials, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry demanded an immediate ceasefire amid the continuing complicated developments of the Middle East conflict.

During a telephone conversation between Foreign Minister Shoukry and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, New Zealand Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, the parties discussed the security and humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, as well as their impact on regional and international peace and security.

Mr. Shoukry discussed with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov a new resolution proposed by Brazil at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

He stressed that the UN Security Council has legal and humanitarian responsibilities to end the Middle East conflict.

In a phone call with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on the humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip, Mr. Shoukry stressed that the conflict has now killed more than 9,000 people, including more than 3,700 children.

For his part, Mr. Borrell emphasized the task of protecting civilians in the context of the increasingly deteriorating humanitarian situation.

Mr Shoukry and his New Zealand counterpart Nanaia Mahuta also discussed coordinating actions to implement a humanitarian ceasefire, as well as efforts to evacuate third-country nationals from Gaza.
