Ms. Manis, who lives in Tennessee, USA, is recognized as the woman with the longest mullet hair in the world .
“People hardly notice how long my hair is and only notice when I turn around,” Tami Manis said on August 31, adding that she started wearing her hair this way in the 1980s after watching Til Tuesday’s music video for Voices Carry.
On the same day, Guinness World Records announced that 58-year-old Manis has the world's longest mullet, measuring 173 cm (5.7 inches). The last time Manis cut the ends of her hair was in February 1990.

Manis finished second in the 2022 U.S. Mullet Championships, winning $300. The competition inspired Manis to apply to Guinness World Records.
According to Ms. Manis, her mullet hairstyle has been recognized by people for more than 20 years, as well as being a topic of conversation with family and friends. She often tucks the ends of her hair into her pocket when riding her motorbike.
A friend braids the ends of Manis’s hair once a week, which she then leaves in place until she washes it and dries it with a paper towel. “Otherwise, the ends are always wet,” Manis said.
The mullet, or fishtail, became popular in the 1980s. It is a hairstyle that is short in the front and gradually longer in the back. It has been mentioned in texts from centuries ago.
The Iliad, believed to have been written by the Greek poet Homer in the 8th century BC, mentions spearmen with hair that was “short in front and long behind.”
