Amanda Nguyen will become the first Vietnamese-American woman to fly into space on Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket in the upcoming launch.
Earlier this week, the US non-profit organization Space for Humanity (S4H) announced funding for the upcoming space flight of Amanda Nguyen, a 32-year-old Vietnamese-American woman, under the Citizen Astronaut Program.
The S4H program recruits, trains, and sends influential individuals from all walks of life into space to experience the “holistic effect,” the mind-altering effect of observing Earth from space. When they return, they are expected to inspire positivity.

"I am honored to partner with S4H, because of its vision, values, and spirit of community support. Together, we will strive to change the way we view the future of humanity. I look forward to this journey," S4H's statement quoted Amanda Nguyen.
S4H CEO Antonia Peronace expressed pride in collaborating and supporting Amanda Nguyen's journey into space, hoping that the trip will become "a shining example for many people".
Amanda Nguyen graduated from Harvard University and interned at NASA in 2013. She then worked at the Harvard & Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, then served as deputy White House liaison at the US State Department .
In 2013, she was sexually assaulted by a classmate at Harvard. Realizing the inadequacy of medical evidence in filing a lawsuit, she drafted and campaigned for the Sexual Assault Victims’ Bill of Rights. Her bill was passed by the US Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama in October 2016. Currently, 14 states in the US have this law.
She is also the founder of RISE, a non-profit organization that represents the rights of sexual assault victims across the United States. In 2019, Amanda Nguyen was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to fight for the rights of sexual assault victims.
