In a day of intense competition, Vu Thi Trang (ranked 129th in the world ) defeated Taiwanese tennis player Lin Sih-yun (Taiwan, ranked 92nd in the world ) with a score of 2-0 (21/18, 21/15) in the round of 16 of the women's singles. The Taiwanese player was ranked higher and persistently pursued, but Vu Thi Trang conquered her opponent with effective set plays.

During the break between the two games, Nguyen Tien Minh took the opportunity to tell his wife about his opponent's weaknesses to exploit. The world bronze medalist and four-time Olympic participant also enthusiastically carried his wife's racket bag. Nguyen Tien Minh's actions were praised by many badminton fans.
