Yen Xa wastewater treatment plant to start trial operation in March

VnExpressVnExpress13/01/2024

After eight years of construction, Hanoi's largest wastewater treatment plant can test run at 40% of its design capacity in March and gradually increase capacity as bid packages are completed.

According to the report of the Steering Committee of Program 03 (Urban beautification, urban development and urban economy in the period of 2021-2025), when the factory is put into trial operation, the pipelines can collect about 90,000 m3/day.

Up to now, package No. 1 (construction of Yen Xa wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 270,000 m3/day and night) has completed 96% of the work volume, but there are problems in operation because the wastewater is brought to the plant depending on packages No. 2 and No. 4.

Meanwhile, package 2 (construction of a sewer system for the To Lich River and the main sewer) has only completed 82% of the design volume and is expected to be fully completed by March 2025. Package 4 (construction of a sewer system for part of the Ha Dong area and the new urban area) is being negotiated with the main contractor by the Hanoi City Technical Infrastructure and Agricultural Construction Investment Project Management Board.

Regarding package No. 3 (construction of a sewer system for the Lu River), the city has agreed to terminate the contract with the contractor and re-bid, and is expected to resume construction from the fourth quarter of 2024.

Yen Xa wastewater treatment plant (Thinh Liet commune, Thanh Tri district) started construction in 2016 with a capacity of 270,000 m3 of domestic wastewater per day. The project uses ODA loans from Japan (JICA) with a total investment of more than 16,000 billion VND, expected to be completed in 2019 but had to be postponed twice to 2022 and the latest milestone is 2025.

When the factory is operational, it will help treat part of the domestic wastewater for Dong Da, Ba Dinh, Tay Ho, Cau Giay, Ha Dong, Hai Ba Trung districts and Thanh Tri district, and at the same time "revive" the To Lich, Lu, Set rivers and part of the Nhue river.
