Susie Wiles, who was appointed White House chief of staff by Trump on November 7, and Biden's chief of staff Jeff Zients have been in touch this week about the transition and have coordinated a meeting for November 13, two sources told CNN. The sources added that Wiles and Zients have been in touch over the past few months, discussing topics including the first assassination attempt on Trump in July.

In a speech at the White House on November 7, President Biden called on the American people to "cool down" after the Republican victory and sought to comfort Democrats who were worried about the return of former President Trump, according to Reuters.

The current White House owner emphasized that the November 5 election demonstrated the integrity of the US electoral system and pledged to transfer power in an orderly manner.

Biden called Trump on November 6 to congratulate him on his re-election. Despite his criminal conviction, Trump won a landslide victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

Trump began staffing his second administration on November 7 by naming his campaign manager, Susie Wiles, as White House chief of staff. Wiles is the first woman to hold the senior position and the first person President-elect Trump has appointed to his incoming administration.

Polls after the official November 5 vote showed that voters' top concerns were still the economy and soaring inflation under the Biden administration after the Covid-19 pandemic, according to AFP.
