The Nobel Committee praised Jon Fosse's literary style, known as “Fossian Minimalism.”

The Nobel Prize in Literature is one of six Nobel Prize categories, awarded to authors from any country, according to the will of chemist Alfred Nobel. The Swedish Academy selects the winner.

Since last November, thousands of letters from all over the world have been sent to the Swedish Academy to nominate authors worthy of the most prestigious award in literature.

Only qualified persons may make nominations, including members of the Swedish Academy, academies, organizations, and associations with similar structures and objectives; professors of literature and linguistics at universities and colleges; previous Nobel Prize winners in Literature and presidents of writers' organizations representing each literary tradition.
