Central Highlands and South suffered heavy damage due to natural disasters at the end of July
On August 2, the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control said that from July 28 to August 1, natural disasters in the Central Highlands and the South caused many losses in human lives and property.
Of which, 1 person missing in Dak Nong province is Mr. Ho Trong S. (58 years old, residing in Dak Mil district) who was swept away by water while crossing a stream. The natural disaster also caused 4 houses to collapse in Ca Mau, 8 houses had their roofs blown off (4 houses in Ben Tre, 1 house in Ca Mau, 3 houses in Tra Vinh ) and 181 houses to be flooded (43 houses in Dong Nai, 138 houses in Dak Nong); 5,506.3 hectares of rice and crops were flooded (420.5 hectares in Dong Nai, 206.8 hectares in Dak Nong, 4,551 hectares in Dak Lak, 328 hectares in Tra Vinh ); 125.3 hectares of aquaculture ponds (118.7 hectares in Dak Nong; 6.6 hectares in Dak Lak) and 645 tons of aquatic products (508 tons in Dong Nai, 137 tons in Dak Nong) were damaged.
Previously, in the 5 days from July 27 to 31, heavy rain, flooding, landslides, thunderstorms, and lightning in the provinces of Dak Nong, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Binh Thuan, Dong Nai, Thai Nguyen, An Giang, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang , Tra Vinh, Ca Mau, and Kien Giang caused 7 deaths (Lam Dong 4, Binh Thuan 1, Thai Nguyen 1, Bac Lieu 1), 22 injuries; 348 houses flooded; 179 houses collapsed; 637 houses damaged; 7,946 hectares of rice and crops flooded; 168 hectares of aquaculture ponds were damaged; 58.3 tons of fish in Dong Nai were lost; 11 national highway locations and many local traffic routes were eroded and flooded.
To cope with heavy rain, the risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides, the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control requires the Northern, North Central, Central Highlands, and Southern provinces to closely monitor developments of heavy rain, flooding, flash floods, and landslides, and provide timely and complete information to authorities at all levels and people to proactively prevent, respond, and minimize damage.
