CSG-1's mission includes a wide range of activities, such as flight operations with fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, maritime strike exercises, and tactical training between surface and air units.

The group includes the aircraft carrier CVN 70, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 2, guided-missile cruiser USS Princeton and Destroyer Squadron 1.

Previously, CSG-1 participated in multilateral exercises with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and the Republic of Korea Navy, aiming to enhance military capabilities and promote cooperation and communication between the navies of these countries.

The Vinson Strike Group departed San Diego on October 12, 2023, for the Western Pacific and has since participated in multinational exercises, including the 2023 annual exercise in the Philippine Sea, which emphasizes the spirit of international cooperation in ensuring maritime security.

CSG-1’s mission is not just focused on combat readiness. The group also provides humanitarian assistance, reflecting the U.S. Navy’s commitment to peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance, in addition to defense. Currently deployed in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility, CSG-1 supports the principle of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
