Female professor winning Kovalevskaia Award appointed Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City National University

The Prime Minister appointed Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, Principal of the High School for the Gifted, Vice Principal of the University of Science under the Ho Chi Minh City National University, to hold the position of Vice Director of the Ho Chi Minh City National University.

In Decision 504/QD-TTg dated June 12, 2024, the Prime Minister appointed Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, Principal of the Gifted High School, Vice Principal of the University of Science under Ho Chi Minh City National University, to hold the position of Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City National University.

The term of appointment is 5 years.

Professor Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, born in 1974, from Quang Ngai, graduated with a degree in chemistry from the University of General Sciences (now the University of Natural Sciences). She then obtained a PhD in pharmaceutical chemistry from Toyama University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Japan.

She was appointed Associate Professor in 2014 and then Professor in 2021. In 2023, Professor Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai was awarded the title of Meritorious Teacher.

In the first 10 years after becoming a PhD, she mainly focused on researching the field of drug discovery from Vietnamese medicinal herbs. Recently, the female professor continued to carry out a number of applied studies, completing 2 products to support digestive tract cancer and arthritis from domestic medicinal herbs. Up to now, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai has had more than 80 articles published in prestigious international scientific journals.

With research on products from bees raised in Vietnam, Professor Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai's research team won the Golden Globe Award in 2017 and the Ho Chi Minh City Innovation Award in 2019. She was awarded the Kovalevskaia Award in 2021 for female scientists with outstanding achievements in scientific research and practical application, bringing many benefits to life.
