Mr. Toan shared that since his student days, he has been passionate about and learned about mushrooms. He once tried growing Ganoderma lucidum, but because the price of Ganoderma lucidum was not high and the output market was difficult, he switched to producing Cordyceps sinensis.
The cordyceps production model brings a stable income to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Toan (Nam Da commune, Krong No district, Dak Nong province).
After graduating from university, Toan decided to buy embryos for research. Due to the small initial investment capital, he was only able to build a 10m2 room with simple equipment such as lighting and air conditioning to serve as a research room.
"After 3 months of experimental cultivation, the embryos also gave results. Although not as expected, it marked my first success and gave me more motivation to continue pursuing my passion," said Mr. Toan.
Regarding the difficulties, Mr. Toan said that the biggest difficulty in the seed production process is preventing seed degeneration and mold disease. In addition, attention must be paid to the environment, temperature, humidity, etc. for the seed embryo to develop.
"In 2020, the mushroom room was infected with mold, causing the number of cordyceps mushrooms to be damaged, causing great damage. After researching and learning from the experiences of some predecessors, I learned how to treat the mushroom room by disinfecting and fumigating the air," said Mr. Toan.
Up to now, Mr. Toan has been able to cultivate embryos himself to serve production and supply embryos to markets in and outside the province.

After initial successes, Mr. Toan began to launch many product lines related to Cordyceps such as: fresh Cordyceps, dried Cordyceps, Cordyceps soaked in honey, Cordyceps soaked in wine...
With the model of cultivating and producing cordyceps, Mr. Toan's family has a stable source of income. After deducting production costs, he earns more than 20 million VND in profit each month.
Cordyceps products of Rong Vang Cooperative are widely known in the market.
In 2021, Mr. Toan established the Rong Vang Cordyceps Cooperative (HTX) owned by himself with 10 members. Accordingly, Mr. Toan supports the design of breeding rooms and provides guaranteed breeds for households in the cooperative. The products of the members will be sold under the brand name of Rong Vang Cooperative.
In November 2023, his freeze-dried cordyceps product met 3-star OCOP standards.
Mr. Toan said that his cordyceps mushroom production model has attracted the attention of many groups and farmers' associations inside and outside the province who came to visit and learn.
With initial successes, Mr. Toan plans to continue expanding the model, researching and producing more specialized product lines made from Cordyceps. In addition, he is also experimenting with the production of a medicinal orchid growing model to diversify products.
