The Democratic-led Senate voted 88-9 to pass the measure to avert the fourth partial federal government shutdown in a decade, sending the bill to President Joe Biden to sign into law before a 12:01 a.m. ET deadline Sunday.

Earlier, the US House of Representatives voted 335-91 to pass a bill to fund the federal government through November 17, with more Democrats supporting it than Republicans.
“The American people can breathe a sigh of relief: the government will not shut down tonight,” Senate Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said after the vote. “We are glad that Speaker McCarthy finally heeded our message.”

Some 209 Democrats backed the bill in the US House of Representatives, far more than the 126 Republicans who supported it, and Democrats described the result as a victory.
“We should never have been in this situation in the first place. Just a few months ago, Speaker McCarthy and I reached a budget deal that prevented this manufactured crisis from happening,” President Biden said after the vote in the US Congress .
“House Republicans tried to abandon that deal by demanding deep budget cuts that would have hurt millions of Americans. But they failed,” he added.
