The poll, released by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on October 12, was conducted in seven battleground states with 600 registered voters in each state. The poll was conducted from September 28 to October 8 and has a margin of error of 4 percentage points in each state.

The specific results show that Mr. Trump leads Ms. Harris in 7 swing states with a ratio of 50% to 39%, related to the question of who is best able to handle the conflict in Ukraine.

The former US President also has an advantage over his opponent (48% to 33%) on the question of who is better suited to handle the Israel-Hamas conflict.

A WSJ poll, released on October 11, found that many voters rated Mr. Trump highly on handling economic and immigration issues, while many others said Ms. Harris would do better on housing and health care.

In overall support, Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump are tied in seven states that could decide the presidential election in November. Ms. Harris leads by 2 percentage points in Arizona, Georgia and Michigan, while Mr. Trump leads by 6 percentage points in Nevada and 1 percentage point in Pennsylvania. The two are neck and neck in North Carolina and Wisconsin.

Polling in swing states could be an important indicator because the state-by-state Electoral College results will determine the winner, with seven battleground states potentially decisive.

The close results, similar to other polls, reflect a tense November 5 general election as Americans grapple with concerns about the economy, immigration, women's rights and the nation's democratic values in choosing between the two candidates.
