"I think they want to receive that letter. The other option is we have to do something, because we can't have another country with nuclear weapons," Mr. Trump added.

Iran has not commented on the above information.

The letter appears to have been sent to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Reuters reported. The White House has not confirmed the report.

According to President Trump, there are two ways to deal with Iran: militarily or by reaching a deal. "I prefer to reach a deal, because I don't want to hurt Iran. They're great people," the US leader said.

In 2018, during his first term as president, Trump withdrew the United States from the Iran nuclear deal, a multilateral agreement aimed at preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

In February, he said he wanted to reach a deal with Iran to prevent the country from developing nuclear weapons.

Russia has offered to mediate between the United States and Iran, pledging to do everything possible to facilitate a peaceful solution to tensions over Tehran's nuclear program, Reuters reported.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov discussed international efforts to resolve the situation related to Iran's nuclear program with Iranian Ambassador Kazem Jalali, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on March 7.
