With the desire to resume the peace process with Israel, Palestinian leaders are aiming to form a broad international front, said Majdi Al-Khaldi, foreign affairs adviser to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Speaking on Voice of Palestine radio on July 25, Mr. Al-Khaldi affirmed that the resumption of peace negotiations stalled with Israel since 2014 should be based on international resolutions and the Arab peace initiative.

Stressing that “Palestine’s position is clear and internationally known,” adviser Al-Khaldi said that President Abbas’s recent visits to several countries “are to advance the political line” as well as strengthen bilateral relations.

Recently, Palestinian officials have called for the formation of a united and coordinated international front under the auspices of the United Nations to enforce international law by ending Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories.

The most recent direct Israeli-Palestinian peace talks have been frozen since 2014 due to disagreements over settlements, security and recognition of a Palestinian state.

In early July, the Israeli military launched an offensive against what it called a “terrorist stronghold” in the Jenin refugee camps. It was said to be the largest raid in the West Bank in 20 years, involving about 1,000 soldiers and 20 drone strikes.

An Israeli military operation in a refugee camp in Jenin left at least 12 Palestinians dead and dozens injured. The Palestinian leader immediately decided to suspend communications and security coordination with Israel.
