VnExpressVnExpress11/11/2023

A brace in the 2-1 win over Wuhan Three Towns put Hanoi FC striker Pham Tuan Hai in the best lineup of the fourth round of the 2023-2024 AFC Champions League.

At My Dinh Stadium (Hanoi) on the evening of November 8, Tuan Hai scored both goals to help Hanoi FC win their first victory in the history of participating in the AFC Champions League, and break the five-year losing streak in all competitions.

The first goal was scored in the 71st minute, when Tuan Hai headed the ball past goalkeeper Liu Dianzuo to equalize 1-1. In the 90th minute, he controlled and faked the ball to eliminate two away players, before kicking the ball into the far corner to complete the comeback for the Vietnamese representative. The striker born in 1998 personally rose to the top of the scoring list for Hanoi FC in the AFC Champions League with three goals, one more than Joel Tagueu.

This is the first time Tuan Hai and a Hanoi player have been selected for the best team in a match of the most prestigious tournament in Asia. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) called Pham Tuan Hai the "hero" of Hanoi FC, and sent congratulations on the capital team's first victory.

Tuan Hai is currently ranked fifth in the list of top scorers with 17 other players, including superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

In addition to Tuan Hai, the typical lineup has four more selected strikers: Saeid Sadeghi (Persepolis, Iran), striker Anderson Talisca (Al Nassr, Saudi Arabia), Richairo Zivkovic (Lion City Sailors, Singapore), Kodjo Laba (Al Ain, UAE).

Other positions include goalkeeper Utkir Yusupov (Navbahor Namangan, Uzbekistan), central defenders Dion Cools and Kim Min-Hyeok (Buriram United, Thailand), defenders Ramin Rezaeian (Sepahan, Iran), Mohammed Al Burayk (Al Hilal, Saudi Arabia), and midfielder Mohammad Hosseinnezhad (Sepahan, Iran).

The victory over Wuhan gave Hanoi FC three points in Group J, one point behind the Chinese club and Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds. The Korean club Pohang Steelers is at the top and is certain to advance with 12 points.

Hanoi still have a chance to compete for second place in the table. They will visit Pohang on November 28, before hosting Urawa on December 6. In the first leg, Hanoi lost 2-4 to Pohang and 0-6 to Urawa.

Tuan Hai is from Ha Nam , and grew up in the Hanoi youth training center. He played professionally from the First Division in 2018 for Hanoi B, later renamed Ha Tinh Club. At the end of 2021, Tuan Hai moved to play for Hanoi FC, immediately becoming a mainstay and winning the treble of V-League, National Cup and National Super Cup 2022.

Tuan Hai made his national team debut under coach Park Hang-seo in October 2021, in a 1-3 loss to Oman in the third qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup. After that, he became a regular starter for the team. With 28 goals, Tuan Hai is the Vietnamese striker who has scored the most goals since 2022, five more than the next player, Tien Linh.
