Video footage from the scene released by the governor of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, showed at least 10 floors of the building collapsing. "The city of Belgorod and the Belgorod region have been subjected to heavy shelling by the Ukrainian armed forces. As a result of a direct shelling of an apartment building, the entire entrance from the 10th floor to the first floor has collapsed," he said.
In addition, Mr. Gladkov said more than 300 apartments in 85 apartment buildings and 14 commercial buildings were damaged by the massive shelling of Belgorod by the Ukrainian army on May 11.
Russia's Mash Telegram news channel said at least seven people were killed and 15 injured. It was not immediately clear what kind of weapons were used in the attack, or whether they had been sent from the West.

A witness at the scene said there were many ambulances and fire trucks at the scene. "A large part of the 10-storey building collapsed. I saw some victims. Firefighters are clearing the rubble," the witness, who declined to be named, said. There was no immediate response from Ukraine.
On May 12, the Russian Defense Ministry said air defense forces destroyed two Soviet-era conventional ballistic missiles launched by Ukrainian forces overnight in the Belgorod region.
Both Ukraine and Russia have denied targeting civilians, although many civilians on both sides have been killed in the fighting.
Earlier this month, Russian forces opened a new front in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region, an area bordering Russia’s Belgorod region that has been regularly attacked by Ukrainian drones, artillery and pro-Ukrainian forces.
In March, President Vladimir Putin suggested Russia might try to establish a buffer zone inside Ukraine following attacks on Belgorod, to protect civilians from Ukrainian attacks.
