Developing clean and sustainable agriculture in Cu Dong

In order to promote sustainable agricultural economic development and accelerate the process of building new rural areas after the merger, the new Cu Dong commune (established on the basis of merging three communes: Tat Thang, Thang Son and Cu Dong) has focused on directing the synchronous implementation of solutions, gradually finding suitable directions in economic development, creating jobs and income for people.

The cooperative has boldly brought organic milk grapes, which are typical of hot regions, to grow on local hills.

From early morning, we were led by commune officials on the winding hillsides, where nature is favorable, and visited the Tat Thang Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative model, Tat Thang commune (old) now Cu Dong commune (new) - here, a young and dynamic cooperative established in 2021 is making a transformation of highland agriculture every day with a model of applying science and technology to farming, creating clean products. At the same time, the cooperative has built a closed clean agricultural production model with products from goat meat, herbal chicken, milk grapes, clean vegetables...

Developing clean and sustainable agriculture in Cu Dong

The cooperative applies manual fruit bagging techniques to keep grapes as clean as possible.

In particular, the Korean milk grape product was brought back by the Cooperative to be planted since 2022, with more than 1 hectare of milk grapes becoming a model for a new direction in converting crops associated with safety standards, organic and high economic value. Therefore, the Cooperative has boldly brought organic milk grapes, which are typical of hot sunny regions, to be planted on local hills. Thanks to the application of drip irrigation technology, manual fruit wrapping techniques to prevent pests and diseases to maintain maximum cleanliness and absolutely no use of chemicals, the grapes have grown stably for outstanding quality. Ripe grapes have crispy skin, pink-green color, sweet taste, rich in nutrients, the product is favored by consumers, the main source of consumption of the Cooperative is distribution through clean agricultural product channels in and outside the province, becoming a new promising direction for agriculture in the midland and mountainous regions.

After 2 years of implementation, Tat Thang Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative has planted more than 300 Korean milk grape trees on an area of 4,000m2. The grape garden grows well, produces good quality fruit, suitable for local soil conditions. The milk grape product has achieved 3-star OCOP certification in 2024. With a synchronous process, this year's grape crop is expected to yield over 6 tons. In addition to commercial goals, not only as a fruit tree, organic milk grapes in Cu Dong also open up the potential for developing agricultural experience tourism, attracting tourists to visit, take photos and enjoy grapes right in the garden, contributing to increasing the value of local agricultural products.

Ms. Dinh Thi Thao - Director of the Cooperative said that Korean milk grapes are outstanding for their productivity and crop quality. Therefore, the goal of the Cooperative is that the care of milk grapes is very important. During the planting process, manure is composted with probiotics and protein, fresh fish to create fish protein to water the grapes. In addition, we combine knowledge of raising and caring for crops and livestock in traditional ways with completely new standards to create products that are both clean and have the identity of the highlands.

Developing clean and sustainable agriculture in Cu Dong

Raising goats according to VietGap standards is a clean farming model that the Cooperative focuses on applying.

In addition, the Cooperative currently has a goat barn area of 2,000m2 , with an output of more than 80 thousand tons per year. Goats are raised semi-free range, without using antibiotics, and goat meat products are assessed to be in accordance with VietGap good livestock practices. Raising livestock according to VietGap standards is a clean livestock model that the Cooperative focuses on applying to protect livestock well to provide clean products to the market, bringing high profits and protecting the environment.

Along with livestock and fruit trees, the cooperative also focuses on developing organic vegetables with an area of over 2 hectares, closely linked with 20 households in the commune. Vegetables are grown in a rotational manner without chemical pesticides, using composted organic fertilizers and biological products to ensure safe quality and environmental friendliness.

This model not only creates jobs for many workers, but also affirms the brand of local agricultural products in the market. Tat Thang Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative has gradually become a bright spot in the development of clean and effective agriculture and is associated with the local OCOP brand.
