(CLO) On November 26, Philippine law officials summoned Vice President Sara Duterte for questioning about her statement that she had hired someone to assassinate President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. if she was killed.
A summons from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) requires Ms. Duterte to appear in office on November 29. According to the summons, Ms. Duterte will be questioned on charges of making serious threats and possibly violating the anti-terrorism law.
Earlier in an online press conference on November 23, Ms. Duterte said she had spoken to an assassin and instructed him to kill President Marcos, his wife and his cousin, the speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives, if she was killed.
Ms Duterte's office said she was not present when the summons was sent and had not yet read it. Ms Duterte said on November 25 that she would comply if the investigators summoned her.

In a national address on November 25, Mr. Marcos vowed to counter “reckless and disturbing threats” against him, and would not allow such criminal attempts to take place, but did not name Ms. Duterte.
According to the Philippine Department of Justice , unlike the President, the Vice President does not enjoy immunity from prosecution.
In her statement, Ms. Duterte said her remarks did not threaten Mr. Marcos' life.
The conflict between Ms. Duterte and Mr. Marcos comes just weeks after her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, was investigated for his infamous "war on drugs" during his 2016-2022 term. The Philippine Congress is currently investigating Ms. Duterte separately for alleged misuse of public funds.
