Earlier on July 10, the US said it would begin deploying long-range missiles in Germany from 2026 to prepare for longer-term deployments, including SM-6s, Tomahawk cruise missiles and hypersonic weapons under development.
President Putin warned that in case the US plans come true, Russia will cancel the memorandum on the deployment of medium- and short-range strike assets.
In a speech to sailors from Russia, China, Algeria and India to mark Russian Navy Day in St Petersburg, Mr Putin also warned the US that the move risked triggering a Cold War-style missile crisis.

"The time it will take for such missiles, which in the future could be equipped with nuclear warheads, to reach their targets on our territory will be about 10 minutes. We will take corresponding measures, taking into account the actions of the United States, its satellites in Europe and other regions of the world ," Putin said.
"The development of such systems is in the final stages for us. We will take countermeasures when they are deployed," he stressed.
“This situation is reminiscent of the Cold War events related to the deployment of American intermediate-range Pershing missiles in Europe,” Putin said. The Pershing II missiles, designed to carry variable-yield nuclear warheads, were deployed to West Germany in 1983.
The Russian president reiterated an earlier warning that the country could continue to produce medium- and short-range nuclear missiles and then consider deploying them after the US deployed similar missiles in Europe and Asia.
