The Jerusalem Post reported that during the exercise, an Israeli submarine located a simulated enemy target and then launched a torpedo to destroy the target.

"We heard the power (of the explosion) and saw the huge smoke and the target sinking. It was a great experience," said a deputy commander of Shayetet 7 unit. He added that the new torpedo will increase the submarine's operational capabilities, thereby giving the military an advantage.

A simulated target at sea was hit by a new Israeli torpedo during a naval exercise, announced by the IDF on September 11.

“Even if the target is stealthy, we can still fire. This allows us to operate stealthily at long range and in the position needed,” the deputy commander said. The Israeli military did not provide further details about the type of torpedo used.

The IDF said that before the submarine exercise, the soldiers went through several military exercises, including firing torpedoes and simulating extreme situations. The deputy commander of Shayetet 7 said that necessary steps were taken before the exercise to ensure the safety of the soldiers and the surrounding environment.

The Israeli military's Shayetet 7 unit is tasked with a variety of missions, including destroying enemy ships, controlling port entrances, conducting espionage operations, and supporting other units in combat.

In another development, an Israeli military helicopter crashed while landing in the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip on September 11, killing two soldiers and injuring eight others, according to the Times of Israel .

The helicopter was dispatched to evacuate an injured engineer but crashed hard on the ground instead of landing as usual. According to a preliminary investigation, the Israeli military has classified the incident as an accident, adding that the helicopter was not hit by bullets and crashed at low altitude, close to the ground. The cause of the helicopter crash is currently under investigation by Israel.
