Speaking at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing, China's top diplomat admitted that relations between the country and the US "encountered serious difficulties early last year".

Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Beijing "expressed a solemn stance, demanding that the US change its erroneous understanding of China and return to a rational and substantive China policy".

According to Mr. Wang Yi, after "hard efforts, the two sides have restructured communication and dialogue, and bilateral relations have stabilized and are no longer in decline."

In November 2023, US President Joe Biden met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in San Francisco. Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that during the meeting, President Biden pledged that the US "does not support Taiwan independence".

Meanwhile, TASS reported that, speaking about Russia, Mr. Wang Yi specifically mentioned President Xi Jinping's visit to Moscow in March last year.

The diplomat welcomed the “long conversation” between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying the meetings were among Beijing’s most important foreign policy milestones in 2023.

“We will continue to strengthen comprehensive strategic cooperation between China and Russia, support a multipolar world , and promote the democratization of international relations,” Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed.

"Thanks to the high level of mutual trust and strategic leadership of the two heads of state, President Xi Jinping has implemented true multipolarity, strengthened practical cooperation in various fields, and maintained global strategic stability," the Chinese foreign minister noted.
