On September 6, the Quang Ninh health sector reported that in the middle of a stormy night with huge waves offshore, the emergency team from the Van Don Special Zone Medical Center was still determined to cross the sea to Thang Loi Island to bring a woman in critical labor safely to the mainland.
Accordingly, at 10:00 p.m. on August 5, Van Don Special Zone Medical Center received an urgent report from Thang Loi Commune Health Station about a pregnant woman BTA (29 years old, first pregnancy, 37 weeks and 2 days pregnant) who went into labor, had severe abdominal pain, suspected abnormal fetal position, high risk of difficult labor, and could not give birth normally at the commune level.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Van Special Zone Medical Center arranged specialized rescue boats, coordinated with functional departments to fully prepare emergency equipment from outside the hospital to ensure safety, and was ready to cross the sea to the island to pick up patients in dangerous weather conditions.
The Medical Center immediately activated the "red alert" procedure for emergency treatment outside the hospital, mobilizing a team of 4 members including doctors, midwives, and rescue boat operators.
At exactly 11:00 p.m., in the pitch-black night, the rescue team left the mainland on a specialized boat, despite the dangerous weather: heavy rain, continuous thunder and lightning, high waves and strong winds of level 6-7. The journey of more than 22 nautical miles (nearly 40 km) to Thang Loi Island took place in unprecedentedly harsh conditions.
At nearly 1:00 a.m. on August 6, the rescue boat safely reached the island. Immediately, the team coordinated with Thang Loi Medical Station to conduct a quick examination and diagnosed: High head position, narrow pelvis, prognosis of not being able to give birth naturally, needing an emergency cesarean section.
In the middle of a stormy night, transporting the pregnant woman to the mainland was a big challenge, but in the face of the critical situation, the emergency team decided to take the pregnant woman on a boat back to the Center, while performing emergency interventions along the way such as intravenous fluids, anti-spasmodics, and closely monitoring the mother and fetus' condition.

At exactly 1:30 a.m. on August 6, the mother was safely taken to the Medical Center. That same night, the emergency cesarean section was performed successfully. A pink, crying baby girl weighing 2.4 kg was born.
Currently, the health of both mother and baby is stable and is being monitored and cared for postpartum at the Center.
Doctor Bui Thanh Tuan - Head of the Department of Reproductive Health Care and Obstetrics shared that in the middle of the night, in the strong wind and rain, every decision had to take into account the safety of both mother and child, as well as the entire team. But with all the experience, sense of responsibility and smooth coordination, the doctors were able to do it.
The success of this special emergency is not only the result of professional capacity but also a testament to the proactive response of Van Don Special Zone Medical Center - the unit invested in specialized rescue boats for island emergencies./.
