The largest airport in the Central region, welcoming millions of passengers each year, is set to close 6 months before the scheduled closure for infrastructure upgrades.

From July 1, 2025, Vinh airport - the most important aviation gateway in the North Central region will officially suspend operations for infrastructure upgrades. This will certainly significantly affect the air travel demand of people and tourists to Nghe An in the second half of 2025.

According to the plan, Vinh airport will stop operating from July 1 to December 31, 2025 to serve infrastructure upgrade construction. The total floor area of the domestic terminal T1 is 11,706 m2 , the first floor serves arriving passengers, the second floor is for departing passengers, fully equipped with camera systems and baggage security screening machines. The Vinh airport runway is 2,400 m long, 45 m wide, with an asphalt concrete surface, and was put into use at the end of 2003. In this repair project, the runway is the item with the largest investment capital - more than 623 billion VND. The existing runway will be extended to 3,000 m, accommodating wide-body aircraft. The temporary suspension of Vinh airport is expected to affect the travel needs of people in Nghe An and the North Central region, especially during the peak summer tourist season, September 2nd holiday and the end of the year.
