Heroic mark
The Association of Former Youth Volunteers of Tuyen Quang province currently has over 2,000 members. In recent times, the Association at all levels has actively promoted and mobilized members to maintain their ideological stance and promote their core role in grassroots movements. Policy resolution work has been closely monitored, with more than 700 files being prepared and reviewed for proposals to award or posthumously award the "Glorious Youth Volunteer Medal"; many cases have been recognized as war invalids, martyrs, and victims of Agent Orange. These specific policies are not only a responsibility, but also a deep gratitude to those who have devoted their entire youth to the nation.
The Provincial Association of Former Youth Volunteers coordinated with the Thien Tam Phuc Duc group ( Hanoi ) and Truc Lam Chinh Phap Zen Monastery to express gratitude and present gifts to 60 members in especially difficult circumstances. |
More than half a century has passed, but in the mind of Mr. Nguyen Manh Thuy, former Chairman of the Association of Former Youth Volunteers of Ha Giang Province (old), the years of opening the Happiness Road still seem like yesterday. In 1959, nearly 1,500 Youth Volunteers from 8 provinces: Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang , Nam Dinh and Hai Duong, along with nearly 1,000 laborers who were children of ethnic minorities in Ha Giang , opened a road from Ha Giang to 4 highland districts: Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van, Meo Vac. At that time, these roads were just trails for pedestrians and pack horses.
After nearly 6 years of hardship and difficulty, on March 20, 1965, the Happiness Road (National Highway 4C) was completed, connecting Ha Giang to Meo Vac with a total length of 185 km, helping people have a motorized road to travel, produce and do business. It was truly a great journey of breaking rocks to open a road in the history of the nation, the legendary road, the Happiness Road is forever the pride of the Youth Volunteer Force.
The stories seem to have faded away, but for Mr. Nguyen Duc Bien, village 5, Nhu Khe commune, who participated in opening Road 20 Quyet Thang from Quang Binh to Kham Muon (Laos), or Mr. Nong Phuc Thon, a former Youth Volunteer of Lang Hoi village, Hoa An commune, who contributed to building the road from Chiem Hoa to Linh Duc coal mine, the spirit of Youth Volunteers is still the guiding principle in the entire journey of life after the war. They worked persistently, overcame illness and deprivation, and lived responsibly towards themselves, their families, and society.
Inspire with practical action
In Chiem Hoa commune, former Youth Volunteer Nguyen Quang Vinh has expanded his family's driftwood carpentry workshop, making handicrafts. In particular, he always prioritizes vocational training for children of policy families. Currently, he has trained and created jobs for 5 workers, with an average income of 6-8 million VND/person/month.
In the memory of Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan, village 6, Luc Hanh commune, a female Youth Volunteer of Group 559 on Truong Son road, the war was fierce, full of hardship and sacrifice. For her, the most painful memory was the moment she and her teammates dug a hole to bury their comrades who died from American bombs.
Returning to normal life, she was trusted to participate in 5 consecutive terms of the Commune People's Council; along with that, she actively and enthusiastically participated in the work of the Front, the Association of Former Youth Volunteers, the head of the Women's Association, village health, inspector... Especially in the village health sector, she is famous as a "good hand" midwife when she directly delivered 300 newborn babies to the world. Now her children and grandchildren are all grown up, Ms. Xuan considers serving the people as a source of joy in life every day.
There is no need for monuments or holidays, the spirit of the Youth Volunteers still exists in every story of everyday life, in the actions of those who once carried backpacks “Splitting the Truong Son Mountains to save the country”. They silently did great things, like the way they opened the road with the most primitive manual means, built their homeland with everything they had. That is the spirit of the Youth Volunteers, they are forever a source of pride, a flame of tradition that shines forever, encouraging today’s young generation to learn and follow.
