Sony just filed a new patent for a feature for a gaming controller.

Even though the PlayStation 5 has dominated the gaming world , it seems that the giant Sony is not satisfied with its success. The company recently revealed the Project Q Remote Play handheld device that has been in development for the past 8 years. Now, a newly published patent shows off another promising new technology for the PS5 or something the company is about to launch in the future.

The patent's title is " Dynamic Allocation of Split Control in a Video Game ," and it comes with a diagram and a brief summary explaining its capabilities. Essentially, the technology allows for the split control of a controller's input to be shared among multiple players via a cloud gaming service.

Based on the schematic, for example, when experiencing a game like Street Fighter 6 , the feature would allow one person to control the analog stick to move the character, another person could operate the main buttons, and the third person could control the trigger buttons. It's unclear at this time whether this feature would work for games that aren't on the cloud, as the patent only describes this as cloud computing technology.

This patent is a very interesting idea and could be a groundbreaking accessibility feature that would allow gaming enthusiasts with limited hand dexterity to easily experience games with their friends. It will be interesting to see if Sony eventually releases this technology to the public.
