The Super League is preparing to sue UEFA again for $3.8 billion in damages over the delayed 2021 tournament.
This is the amount the Super League calculated from the loan with JP Morgan bank to launch the tournament three years ago. Accordingly, when the tournament was first launched, they paid 2.8% interest on this loan, but now the interest rate has increased to 6.3%. As a result, the Super League has lost billions of dollars due to the postponement.

In addition, the Super League also asked UEFA to compensate for the loss of television copyright revenue. According to the league's calculations, they have lost at least 30% of their profits and could increase to 90% depending on the quality of the matches in the new tournament. According to the current plan, the Super League will be held in the 2025-2026 season. In total, the Super League estimates the loss of television copyright revenue at between 880 million and 1.5 billion USD.
The final loss that the Super League mentions is in the commercial value. Accordingly, the league calculates that the sponsorship contribution would be at least 10% higher than it is now if UEFA had not affected it. Combined with stadium ticket sales, the compensation that the Super League is asking for is up to 3.8 billion USD.
The Super League was heavily opposed when it was introduced in 2021, to the point that nine of the 12 major clubs that founded the tournament had to withdraw under pressure from public opinion. At that time, UEFA intervened to prevent the birth of this tournament. The European football governing body fined and deducted revenue from European Cups from the clubs in the Super League's founding group and warned that they would be fined up to $122 million if these clubs continued to intend to join similar tournaments in the future.
However, in December last year, UEFA was ruled by the European Court of Justice that it had no right to ban the Super League because it would violate EU antitrust laws. At the time, Ceferin teased that the Super League would only involve Real and Barca. But recently, Barca president Joan Laporta said that 15 clubs were ready to join the Super League.
The A22 Super League organizers then announced a new format with 64 teams participating and divided into three divisions. The Star League and Gold League both have 16 teams, divided into two groups. The Blue League has 32 teams, divided into four groups. The group stage will be played in a round-robin format with home and away matches.
