"Tan Hoa Village, a model of weather-adaptive tourism" in Tan Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh province, with its unique natural and cultural conditions, has fully met the requirements and factors to be honored with the "Best Tourist Village" Award in 2023 by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
Tan Hoa Village is 130km from Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh Province and 70km from Phong Nha Tourist Center. The village is located in the vicinity of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, inheriting unique natural conditions and preserving the rustic, genuine character of a beloved Vietnamese village.
The National Tourism Administration, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that the Best Tourist Village Award is organized to honor typical cases of rural tourism destinations that possess cultural and natural resources, preserve and promote values, build products and lifestyles based on the community and the countryside, and at the same time, these tourist villages have a clear commitment to innovation and sustainability in all aspects.
The selection of the best tourist village is based on an assessment of resources and initiatives in nine areas within three main pillars of sustainable development, economic, social and environmental.
In order to gradually turn Tan Hoa from an area considered the "flood center" of Quang Binh into a key tourist center in the Northwest, since 2014, Quang Binh has coordinated with tourism units to build a step-by-step solid development strategy for Tan Hoa: Bringing local people to participate in tourism activities and gradually letting people take control of the services they provide to tourists; building tourism products to explore the Tu Lan cave system, off-road motorbike tours to explore Lim forest and other products to gradually diversify services for tourists.
Tan Hoa is oriented to develop according to the model of a tourist village that adapts to the weather, providing diverse experiences for tourism from homestay, farming experience, dining at local houses, souvenir stalls and other diverse services for tourists.

As of 2023, a total of 129 tourist villages from 55 countries around the world have been recognized and awarded.
The tourist villages are evaluated by an independent international Advisory Board consisting of experts in different fields (natural and cultural resource conservation, sustainability, tourism product development, marketing, value chain...).
This year, 54 villages were recognized by UNWTO as Best Tourist Villages.
