Việt NamViệt Nam14/05/2024

On May 14, the Coast Guard Command held a conference to disseminate and implement the Plan to strengthen the fight against drug crimes at sea. Major General Le Quang Dao, Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard chaired the conference. The conference was held in a combination of in-person and online formats at 12 locations throughout the Coast Guard Force.

From the beginning of 2024 to now, the Coast Guard has successfully fought 72 cases, arrested 115 subjects, prosecuted 19 cases/23 subjects. Seized evidence: More than 2.1 kg of heroin, more than 100 kg of synthetic drugs, 21 kg of marijuana, more than 20 kg of cocaine, 3 guns, 4 cars, 21 motorbikes, 78 mobile phones and more than 700 million VND. Recently, drug crime rings, especially at sea, have operated on a large scale, in large areas, inter-provincial or transnational with the participation of many domestic and foreign subjects, and tightly organized activities. The masterminds are mainly foreigners, colluding with domestic subjects to use many tricks to deceive the authorities such as: Frequently changing the transporter after each shipment; Using ships and boats to the waters bordering Vietnam's waters to deliver and receive drugs and then transport them to a third country for consumption; blending in and pretending to be fishermen to monitor the activities of the authorities to inform their accomplices... In particular, the subjects also used the trick of dropping life buoys and floating bags to hide drugs with GPS tracking,...

Faced with the complicated situation of drug crimes at sea, the Coast Guard Command will increase the use of forces, means, technical equipment, and working measures, in which professional measures are the spearhead; mobilize the combined strength of functional forces, local authorities and the masses to resolutely prevent, stop, detect and arrest drug crime organizations and lines at sea, demonstrating the determination to prevent early and from afar, not allowing drug crime lines and organizations to take advantage of Vietnam's sea routes as a transit point for illegal drug trafficking.

Major General Le Quang Dao, Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard, delivered a concluding speech at the conference.

Concluding the conference, Major General Le Quang Dao acknowledged and commended the results of the forces' efforts to suppress drug crimes at sea in recent times; at the same time, he requested agencies and units to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement regulations at all levels on the fight against drug crimes. In particular, agencies and units need to focus on including the content of information collection and the fight against drug crimes in the plan of patrolling, inspecting and controlling at sea. The Department of Professional Affairs and Law of the Coast Guard regularly urges and guides units to deploy reconnaissance forces and vehicles on key drug routes and areas; focus on exchanging and sharing information about lines, organizations and individuals related to drug crimes at sea...

The Coast Guard authorities research and propose contents on international cooperation in drug prevention and control at sea, and at the same time identify propaganda and prevention work as important and key to contributing to "supply blocking" and "demand reduction", building and deploying diverse contents and forms of propaganda suitable for each stage, time, region, area and target group.
