Thailand hopes to soon develop relations with Vietnam to new heights.

The Thai Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam is one of Thailand's important partners in Southeast Asia and hopes to soon develop relations with Vietnam to a new height.

According to a special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on the occasion of attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related summits in Vientiane (Laos), on the afternoon of October 9, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

The two Prime Ministers were pleased with the good development of the friendly neighborly relations and the Vietnam-Thailand Enhanced Strategic Partnership; agreed to increase contacts and exchanges at high and all levels; directed relevant agencies to effectively deploy bilateral cooperation mechanisms, actively implement the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-Thailand Enhanced Strategic Partnership for the 2022-2027 period in various fields.

The two sides also agreed to strive to soon reach the target of 25 billion USD in bilateral trade in a balanced manner, through limiting trade barriers, facilitating further opening of commodity markets, removing obstacles and enhancing trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The two leaders highly appreciated the importance of implementing the “Three Connectivity” Strategy, especially connecting supply chains and strategic areas such as transportation, digital economy, green economy, energy transition, etc.; agreed to soon establish a Joint Working Group to develop the content and specific plans to implement this strategy.

The two sides also agreed to expand cooperation in potential areas such as economy, tourism, transportation, multimedia connectivity, and local cooperation; and coordinate with relevant countries to pilot the tourism cooperation initiative “Six countries, one destination.”

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reaffirmed the importance of enhancing coordination and information exchange in the fight against terrorist and reactionary organizations; ensuring that no individual or organization is allowed to use the territory of one country to fight against another.

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra affirmed that he will soon arrange an official visit to Vietnam and co-chair the 4th Vietnam-Thailand Joint Cabinet Meeting; emphasizing that Vietnam is one of Thailand's important partners in Southeast Asia and wishes to soon develop relations with Vietnam to a new height.

The two leaders agreed on the need to strengthen cooperation, maintain solidarity and unity within ASEAN; promote ASEAN's central role in international and regional issues, including the management and sustainable use of Mekong River water resources; ensure peace, stability, security, safety, freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea on the basis of international law, the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); fully and effectively comply with the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and soon reach a substantive and effective Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).
