Facing an opponent rated lower, Olympic Vietnam easily dominated the game and scored 3 goals in the first half.

Coach Hoang Anh Tuan's team opened the scoring after just over 2 minutes. From a long pass from Duc Viet, Quoc Viet comfortably ran down to receive the ball, handled it a few times, then decisively shot with his left foot to defeat the opposing goalkeeper.

In the 32nd minute, Quoc Viet continued to shine, scoring a goal to double the gap for Vietnam. The young striker of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club fired a long shot from a distance of more than 20m, the ball lightly touched the foot of a Mongolian player and flew into the goal, leaving goalkeeper Sereekhuu Batmagnai helpless.

After leading by 2 goals, Vietnam continued to maintain pressure on the opponent's field. In the 41st minute, Van Khang accelerated on the left wing, received a pass from Nguyen Hoang, then broke into the penalty area and fired a powerful shot with his left foot, sending the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Sereekhuu Batmagnai into the net, raising the score to 3-0 for Vietnam.

In the beginning of the second half, Mongolia unexpectedly scored a goal to reduce the score to 1-3 in the 46th minute. From Thai Son's loss of the ball in the middle of the field, the blue team organized a quick attack and striker Temulen coolly defeated Quan Van Chuan in a face-off. Mongolia then played excitedly, continuously creating storms towards Vietnam's penalty area.

However, Vietnam quickly rallied and regained control of the game. In the 64th minute, Nguyen Hoang comfortably fired a dangerous cross-angle shot in the penalty area after a favorable pass from Minh Trong, raising the score to 4-1 for Vietnam.

In the remaining time, Olympic Vietnam had many more good opportunities but could not take advantage and let Mongolia score to shorten the score to 2-4 right in the last seconds of extra time.

With this victory, Vietnam rose to the top of Group B before the match between Iran and Saudi Arabia took place. In the next match, coach Hoang Anh Tuan's team will face Iran on September 21.

In the final match of the group stage on September 24, coach Hoang Anh Tuan’s students will face Olympic Saudi Arabia. These will be two very difficult matches for Olympic Vietnam.

Because two teams in Group C, Olympic Syria and Olympic Afghanistan, withdrew, the number of teams competing for the third-placed team with the best results is only 5 teams.

With the first 3 points, coach Hoang Anh Tuan's students have a chance to win tickets to the round of 16.
