According to Neowin , the survival game Palworld with the style of 'Pokémon with guns' is exploding in the game market, having sold more than 8 million copies after only 6 days of opening for early access. However, the attraction of Palworld is attracting a skeptical look from The Pokémon Company itself.
Amidst the buzz in the gaming community about the similarities between the creatures in Palworld and Pokémon , The Pokémon Company has officially spoken out about the issue. "We have received many questions regarding a game released by another company in January," The Pokémon Company said in a statement.
"We confirm that we have never licensed any Pokémon intellectual property or designs for use in that game," the statement stressed. "The Pokémon Company will investigate and take appropriate action against any infringement of Pokémon intellectual property rights."
Palworld has quite a few similarities to Pokémon.
It's unclear how long this investigation will last, nor what measures The Pokémon Company will take against Palworld developer Pocket Pair if violations are found.
The statement ends with a commitment from The Pokémon Company: "We will continue to cherish and nurture each Pokémon and their world , and work to connect people through Pokémon in the future."
Meanwhile, Palworld is still breaking records for player engagement. It has surpassed 2 million concurrent players on Steam. While exact numbers for Xbox platforms are not yet available, Palworld is also dominating the charts on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Game Pass.
Pocket Pair recently shared its roadmap for upcoming content updates for its early access phase, including improved AI and Pal movement paths, PVP combat, boss raids, cross-play between Steam and Xbox, and more. Currently, the developers are focused on fixing major bugs in the game.
