The Ialy Hydropower Plant Expansion Project, invested by Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), is a national key project, and construction will begin in mid-2021.
The Ialy Hydropower Plant expansion project has a designed capacity of 360MW, including 2 units, and is assigned by Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) to the Power Project Management Board 2 (EVNPMB2) as the investor representative. Power Construction Consulting Joint Stock Company 1 is the consulting unit to design the project in each phase.

The project was implemented in a difficult context such as: the COVID-19 outbreak, high material prices due to the impact of political conflicts in the world, slow site handover procedures...
However, with the efforts of the parties involved, the project was implemented with many creative construction solutions. In particular, the outstanding solution is the simultaneous combination of rotors of unit 1 and unit 2, the layout of the site for parallel deployment of 2 units, and the organization of 3 shifts per day, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
This is considered the "key" to speed up the progress of generating electricity for unit 2 right after generating electricity for unit 1, 18 days ahead of schedule and about 3 months shorter than usual.
Unit 2 of the Ialy Hydropower Plant expansion officially connected to the grid on the evening of December 13.
When put into operation, the project will increase the power generation capacity of the national power system, especially during peak hours; contribute to enhancing the economic operation of the entire system; make optimal use of the water source's capacity, increasing the average annual power generation output by about 233 million kWh/year.
The project also contributes to reducing CO2 emissions; reducing the intensity and operating time of existing generators, thereby extending the life of equipment and saving maintenance and repair costs.
Previously, on November 26, Unit 1 of the Ialy Hydropower Plant expansion project was successfully connected to the national grid.
