Special announcement on the State funeral of former President Tran Duc Luong

Former President Tran Duc Luong.

Comrade Tran Duc Luong, former member of the Politburo , former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, former Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council, was born on May 5, 1937; hometown: Pho Khanh commune, Duc Pho district (now Duc Pho town), Quang Ngai province; permanent residence at 298, Van Phuc street, Lieu Giai ward, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi city.

He joined the revolution in February 1955; joined the Communist Party of Vietnam on December 19, 1959; member of the Party Central Committee of the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th terms; member of the Politburo of the 8th and 9th terms; member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the 8th term; Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers from February 1987 to September 1992; Deputy Prime Minister from October 1992 to August 1997; President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council of the 10th and 11th terms; National Assembly delegate of the 7th, 8th, 10th, and 11th terms.

After a period of serious illness, despite the devoted treatment of the Party, the State, the collective of professors, doctors, and nurses, and the wholehearted care of his family, due to old age and serious illness, he passed away at 22:51, May 20, 2025 (April 23, At Ty year), at his home, at the age of 88.

During more than 50 years of revolutionary activities, Comrade has made many great contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. He was awarded the Gold Star Order, 65-year Party membership badge and many other noble orders, medals, awards and titles by the Party and the State.

Comrade's passing is a great loss to our Party, State, People and Comrade's family. To express condolences and commemorate Comrade Tran Duc Luong, the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front decided to hold Comrade's funeral with the rites of a State Funeral.
