Australian Prime Minister Shocked, Condemns Neo-Nazi Group That Stormed Sydney Train

A group of about 60 men appeared at Artarmon train station in Sydney, New South Wales (NSW) state, Australia, just before noon on January 26, the country's national day.

"I was horrified by those images... I don't want to see people in hoods, dressed in black from head to toe, engaging in neo-Nazi activities in this country," Reuters quoted Mr. Albanese as telling reporters on January 27.

Warning of a rise in neo-Nazi activity in Australia, the leader said: "I say to these people, frankly, take a good look at yourselves."

In a statement, NSW Police said officers were deployed to North Sydney Station to wait for the train to stop. "When the train stopped, passengers were instructed to leave the train while officers boarded and restrained the group of approximately 61 people into several carriages," the statement said, according to The Guardian .

The group members "all had their faces covered and were carrying a number of items, including shields and flags," the statement said.

Police said six people were arrested and taken to a police station to assist with investigations. The remaining 55 people received fines for offensive behaviour.

Australian neo-Nazi leader Thomas Sewell says he is a member of the group. A video shows police serving him a ban from attending any Australia Day events in Sydney.
