On November 15, in Go Cong Dong district, Tien Giang province, the ASC Certification Award Ceremony (international certification) and signing of the Tien Giang clam value chain linkage took place.

The program has the participation of provincial agencies, Go Cong Dong District People's Committee, OXFAM, ICAFIS, RECERD consulting unit, Control Union Certification Organization, Tien Giang province's clam farming community and clam processing and exporting enterprises in the Mekong Delta region.
At the ceremony, Ms. Tran Thi Be Bay, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tien Giang province, said that ASC is a certification for sustainable and responsible aquaculture, which has been trusted by many international markets. The clam farming area of Go Cong Dong district being certified to ASC standards is a good condition to promote the brand and clam products to domestic and foreign consumers, thereby facilitating the export of local specialties and is considered a good sign for the Vietnamese seafood industry.
According to Mr. Dinh Xuan Lap - Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Center for Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries (ICAFIS), clams are one of the four main aquatic products of Vietnam (along with shrimp, pangasius, tilapia) and are popular in many markets around the world such as Europe, America, Japan, Malaysia, Australia...
When clam farming was developed, it effectively exploited the coastal tidal flat area and created jobs for about 200,000 workers. Tien Giang is one of the provinces with developed clam farming in Vietnam. Clam farming in Go Cong Dong district appeared before 1975. In 1990, Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee divided plots and assigned them to households and the Go Cong Dong District Sandbar Management Board to protect and develop clam farming.
However, clam farming in Go Cong Dong is often affected by climate change, epidemics, unstable prices, unstable income, especially in the context of "global economic recession", increasingly high import market requirements...
Currently, clam farming in the coastal area of Go Cong is developing quite strongly. According to the 2022 survey results, the whole province has 530 households leased land by the state to raise clams, contributing to solving many local socio-economic problems and creating jobs for thousands of workers.

The entire Go Cong Dong district currently has about 2,200 hectares of mollusk farming area, mainly clams, with an annual output of about 18,000 - 20,000 tons of commercial clams.
According to ICAFIS, the clam farming area in Go Cong Dong district is the 4th clam farming area in Vietnam and also the 4th clam farming area in the world to achieve ASC certification. ASC certification is considered a “passport”, bringing Vietnamese clam products to many new, demanding markets in the world.
