Tiger Woods' rematch is not favorable

VnExpressVnExpress01/12/2023

Bahamas "Super Tiger" scored +3 and finished near the bottom of the table in round 1 of the Hero World Challenge 2023 - his first match on the PGA Tour after eight months of absence due to health.

The 2023 Hero World Challenge opens on November 30 at the par-72 Albany course in the Bahamas. Woods took the par-4 first hole with a 326-yard drive down the middle of the fairway.

Woods kept par on both of his first two holes. But in the next 11 holes, he birdied three times and bogey, so he still started at even par.

On hole 14, Woods finished with a birdie, thereby rising to -1. However, Woods suddenly lost his fire in the remaining four holes. He scored a double bogey on hole 15, bogey holes 16 and 17, and kept par on hole 18. That final round dragged Woods down to +3 and ranked 18th. The tournament had 20 players, all of whom were famous on the PGA Tour. The top of the table after round 1 was -5, belonging to Brian Harman and Tony Finau.

The Hero World Challenge 2023 marks Woods' return after eight months out of action.

The "Super Tiger" last played in April. At that time, the former world number one American competed in the Masters major, but withdrew from the third round due to a relapse of plantar fasciitis in his right foot. A few days later, he underwent surgery and left the date of his rematch open.

Nearly two weeks ago, Woods announced his participation in the Hero World Challenge 2023. This tournament on the PGA Tour calendar, which he has hosted since 2000, combines fundraising for his own charity.

Over the past 26 years, "Super Tiger" has won 15 majors, currently holding the record of 82 cups on the PGA Tour with the legendary Sam Snead. But in the process of achieving that great feat, he has had to go under the knife at least 10 times due to professional injuries, five of which were in his left knee, the other in his back.
