Dutch tourist found lost while climbing Fansipan peak

On March 4, the Hoang Lien Commune Police, Sa Pa Town, coordinated to successfully search for a Dutch tourist who got lost while exploring Hoang Lien National Park and conquering Fansipan peak.

Previously, at around 3:00 a.m. on March 4, Hoang Lien Commune Police received a report from Ms. Nathalie Margaretha Carola, a Dutch citizen, about her husband, Mr. Christian, born in 1965, a Dutch citizen, going missing while climbing Fansipan Mountain. Mr. Christian started climbing Fansipan Mountain at around 9:00 a.m. on March 3.

At around 4 p.m. that same day, he sent his last text message to his wife, Nathalie Margaretha Carola, informing her that his phone was running out of battery and that he might have to spend the night in the woods. After that, Carola was unable to contact her husband, so she reported it to the authorities, asking for help in the search.

Immediately after receiving the news, the rescue force of Hoang Lien commune deployed the "4 on-site" motto, established 2 search teams including: Commune Police, Security and Order forces at the grassroots level, Commune Civil Servants, Commune Military , Forest Rangers, Village Team Leader, Forest Protection Team, to organize search and rescue.

The forces divided into two groups to search overnight from Sin Chai village, Hoang Lien commune to Fansipan peak and from the trail in Tram Ton area, Nui Xe in Hoang Lien National Park to Fansipan peak.

At 7:30 a.m. on March 4, the rescue force of Hoang Lien commune continued to establish 2 search and rescue teams of 12 people, deployed to search along the streamside trail from Cat Cat to Fansipan peak, and searched by cable car.

After nearly 8 hours of searching, the rescue team found Mr. Christian lost in Sin Chai village, Hoang Lien commune and brought him to Hoang Lien commune headquarters. Mr. Christian is now safe, receiving stable health care and recovering mentally.
