Floods mean tragedy. In the localities of Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, Muong Xen..., the water rose rapidly during the night, forcing thousands of households to leave their homes, many villages were submerged in water, properties were swept away, crops were damaged, and people were left with nothing. In that difficult time, without waiting for people to call for help, the army was present. They arrived in boats, with their shoulders carrying goods, their feet wading in cold water to bring the elderly and children to safety. The officers and soldiers of Military Region 4, from the main force to the local force, from the border guards to the militia, without anyone telling them, quietly took on the hardest part.

Officers and soldiers of Nghe An Provincial Military Command rescue people in the flood.

Not only rescue in the flood night, the image of soldiers staying behind to help people clear mud, dredge canals, repair roofs, rebuild classrooms, clean each table and chair..., moved many people. Many soldiers had wet clothes, their backs bent from carrying bags of rice, basins of water, bags of dry food through forests, cutting mountains to isolated and divided villages. This was not only a relief act, but also the most concrete expression of the value of "sacrificing oneself for the people". Amidst the chaos of mud and dirt, the soldiers became the spiritual pillars of the people and villagers.

In natural disasters, we see more clearly the golden quality of humanity and the spirit of great solidarity. Charitable organizations and philanthropists from all over the country extend their loving arms, accompanying the army to help people overcome difficulties. Convoys of relief goods from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi , Hai Phong, to the downstream localities of Nghe An province follow each other to isolated and divided communes, handing out blankets, boxes of instant noodles, pills, etc. No one is left behind. No one is alone in natural disasters and enemy attacks. That is soft power, a precious national asset that history has cherished and preserved for generations.

A citizen choked up and said: "Seeing the soldiers makes me feel at ease". When asked, a young soldier shared: "We don't need to thank you. Seeing people safe is happiness". Those seemingly simple words contain many profound human values. That is the morality and quality of the Vietnam People's Army from war to peacetime: Always for the people, sticking with the people, living with the people, fighting and sacrificing for the people.

The flood receded, but the love remained. Clean beds were placed in medical stations, warm meals were served by the community fire, schools were lit up thanks to generators brought up by the army, all of these things extended the lifeline after the storm. Not only overcoming the material consequences, the soldiers also sowed the spiritual seed: Faith. Faith that, in all adversities, the Party, the State and the Armed Forces will never abandon their people.

The great lesson after each natural disaster is not only the number of damages, but also the verification of the strength of national unity. The army and the people are like fish and water - that truth is once again affirmed.

Major General Doan Xuan Buong, Political Commissar of Military Region 4, directly came to encourage people in the flooded area of Con Cuong.

The flood will pass, the mud will be cleared, the villages will revive. But there is one thing that will remain forever in the memories of the people of Western Nghe An, that is the eyes of the soldiers soaked in the rain but still warm, the muddy hands still holding the hands of the people tightly. That is the love between the army and the people, the soul of Vietnam that will never be lost, nothing can defeat. That love, that affection, is the most precious asset after every natural disaster that we need to preserve and multiply in each person's heart.
