Highland Fine Arts Group helps ethnic minority children create and speak up for gender equality

In the mountainous commune of Chau Hong (Nghe An province), teacher Le Van Dao has persistently nurtured a love of painting for ethnic minority students, expressing ideas about gender equality and social issues through paintings.

The Fine Arts Group founded by Mr. Dao is not only a place to nurture artistic talent, but also a space for students to confidently express their voices about gender equality and social issues.

Through participating in competitions such as “Listen to your child speak”, the Fine Arts Group has contributed to spreading the message of Project 8 on promoting gender equality and protecting the rights of women and children.

Mr. Le Van Dao (born in 1989), an Art teacher, founded and maintained the Art Group at Chau Tien Primary School (now in Chau Hong commune, Nghe An province) since 2017.

The original purpose of the group was to create a playground and discover drawing talent for students. Currently, the group has about 30 students from grades 1 to 5.

Mr. Dao instructs students in the school's Art classroom, which displays many award-winning works drawn by ethnic minority students.

Vi Min Chon (10 years old), a 5th grade student at Chau Tien Primary School, won second prize in the 2023 "Listen to your child speak" contest under the guidance of teacher Dao.

The work "Pounding rice with parents" by Vi Min Chon, depicts the daily life and family ties of a Thai ethnic child in a particularly difficult area.

Students in the Fine Arts Department are excited to participate in creative activities, which have a positive impact on both their studies and their lives.

The school's Art classroom is fully equipped with tables, chairs, and product display shelves since 2020.

The students' award-winning paintings are a source of encouragement and help them cover part of their tuition fees.

Students not only painted but also made models, with 4 models winning national prizes.

Students in the Fine Arts Department have won more than 20 awards since 2017, at the provincial and national levels.

The efforts of Mr. Le Van Dao and the Fine Arts Group have made an important contribution to the implementation of Project 8 "Achieving gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children", under the National Target Program. Thereby promoting the voice of ethnic minority children, in promoting gender equality in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
