On August 1, the New York Times (USA) and the Siena College Research Institute (SCRI) announced the results of a public opinion poll, showing the possibility of a "rematch" between incumbent US President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump in the 2024 US presidential election.

According to the poll, President Biden has significantly increased his prestige within the US Democratic Party over the past year, with his approval rating trending upward. Voters in this party who were skeptical about Joe Biden's ability have continued to remain in the group of supporters.

In 2022, up to two-thirds of US Democratic voters think there should be a different candidate. However, the majority have now tentatively accepted Mr. Biden as the Democratic candidate to run for election next year.

Notably, more than 30% of Democratic voters plan to vote for President Biden, although they still hope the Democratic Party will choose another candidate.

Additionally, less than 20% approved of Mr. Biden for the Democratic nomination in the 2024 presidential election, while the remaining 51% said they also supported him, albeit not enthusiastically.

However, Mr. Biden's approval rating among the general public remains low, at just 39%.

The poll also shows that President Biden will face a very close race with former President Trump - who is most likely to receive the nomination of the US Republican Party.

Accordingly, both Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump received a support rate of 43% in the case of a rematch in the 2024 election.

The poll, conducted by the New York Times and SCRI, took place from July 23 to 27, with survey results from 1,329 people.
