On the evening of June 18, information from HCDC said that in week 23, the entire city recorded 423 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, an increase of 142.4% compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks (175 cases).
Of which, the number of cases increased in both inpatient admissions and outpatient visits compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks. The cumulative number of cases up to week 23 was 2,407 cases, down compared to the same period in 2022 (5,174 cases).
In the past week, most districts recorded an increase in the number of cases compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks (19/22 districts), except for District 1 and District 3, where the number of cases remained unchanged compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks, and District 10, where the number of cases decreased compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks.
When seeing signs of suspected illness in children, parents need to quickly take their children to medical facilities for examination, consultation, and timely treatment.
To prevent hand, foot and mouth disease, HCDC has organized training courses on hand, foot and mouth disease prevention and control for district and commune health centers, Thu Duc City and local health stations on knowledge about monitoring and preventing hand, foot and mouth disease in the community, early detection and care for children with hand, foot and mouth disease at home.
HCDC added that it will continue to strengthen monitoring activities to prevent and control hand, foot and mouth disease in the community, kindergartens and child care groups in the area; and strengthen communication activities on hand, foot and mouth disease prevention.
In addition, HCDC recommends that parents take measures to prevent hand, foot and mouth disease in children such as washing hands regularly with soap under running water for children and caregivers, and regularly cleaning surfaces and tools that children come into contact with every day.
When detecting signs of suspected illness in children, take the child to see a doctor or immediately notify the nearest medical facility. Closely monitor the child when he or she is sick to detect early signs of worsening illness.
